The Foundation Stage facilities have developed considerably over the past few years. The outdoor environment has recently been improved through the installation of two brand new sheds which have been setup to provide resources to develop the children’s skills in communication and language, literacy and mathematics.  In the past few months we have also had a new soft play surface laid, making the environment much more attractive and welcoming. Children access the outdoor environment freely for a large proportion of the session as we understand that children all learn in different ways and thrive in different environments. We recognise the importance of fresh air and the experiences that the natural environment brings.

Learning is play based within nursery. Children will enjoy practical activities based on their learning needs and interests. We aim to develop strong relationships with parents and carers to enable us to work together to provide the best start each child’s education. We acknowledge that parents and carers are a child’s first educator and that parents have already provided their child with a wide variety of experiences and have taught them everything that they already know. Therefore within a few weeks of each child starting nursery, a meeting is arranged to discuss their starting points and plan for their next steps. We hold meetings throughout the year to discuss each child’s progress. We use 2 simple to record observations and send these observations to parents to keep them informed of progress and next steps.

The school’s last OFSTED inspection in December 2018 stated “Strong support for leaders and teachers in the early years has resulted in an increasing proportion of children achieving a good level of development by the end of Reception"  and “Children settle quickly into school and make good progress from their starting points.”
