ATTENDANCE MATTERS - ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Reading for Pleasure

Reading Ambassadors

We have Reading Ambassadors from Year 1 up to Year 6. They are excellent reading role models and are determined to promote a love of reading in their own classes and around the whole school. Our Reading Ambassadors make book recommendations, choose quality texts for their peers, take care of reading areas across the school and help organise reading events.

World Book Day

At St Barnabas, we love to celebrate World Book Day together. We dress up as our favourite characters, share our favourite books and take part in lots of exciting ideas. This year we took part in our very own ‘The Masked Reader’!

Book Fair

Each year we hold a book fair where we encourage our families to purchase exciting books, at reasonable prices, for all ages across the school. This year our virtual book fair was a huge success with the help of Books for Bugs - Cheap childrens books in the UK.

Book Club

Each term a group of pupils are invited to join a Book Club. Each session has a relaxed reading atmosphere, starting with delicious drinks and snacks to help everyone relax and unwind. We read an exciting book together and then complete lots of wonderful, practical activities linked to art, computing and DT.

Visitors

We love to welcome inspirational authors into our school to share their passion for books. Pupils have been delighted to meet children’s poet Paul Delaney and authors Curtis Jobling and Sean Perkins. Children who attended our Book Club, also had their very own virtual question and answer session with author of ‘Who Let the God’s Out!’, Maz Evans!

Visits

Each half term a group of lucky pupils from across our school get the chance to visit a local bookshop. After taking time to browse through all of the exciting books, each child gets to choose a book for school to purchase on their behalf so that they can take it home and enjoy with their family!
