Walk to School Week

Start: 20th May 2019 8:50am

Duration: 5 days

This year’s Walk to School Week runs from today Monday 20th May to Friday 24th May and is all about the health benefits of walking.

St Barnabas C of E is a strong supporter of walking to school, and Walk to School Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate walking in the community, ease congestion and pollution and get fit.

Everytime your child walks to school next they will receive a ticket for a special prize draw, which will take part at the end of the week.

On Tuesday 21th May Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 can bring their scooter to school for the day. They will be receiving scooter safety training.

We are encouraging children and their parents or carers to leave the car at home and give walking a go. Walking to school is a brilliant way to get active and healthy. It’s also a great opportunity for children to learn vital road safety skills and make sure they’re alert and ready to learn at the start of a new day. Walk to School Week is part of Living Streets’ National Walking Month, a month dedicated to celebrating the benefits of walking – and the perfect time to give walking a go.

Living Streets runs the national Walk to School campaign, and the national charity says parents who walk find the journey to school less stressful, their petrol bill goes down, their children perform better at school and that they, and their children, feel healthier and fitter. Teachers even report that those pupils who walk to school are more attentive once they reach their desks.
