GAIA - Earth Artwork by Luke Jerram

Class: Year 5 Year: 2021 - 2022

Year 5 and 6 went to the Parr Hall to see Luke Jerram's Earth Artwork. The children took part in a workshop, learning about climate change, fossil fuels, the carbon cycle, cleaning dirty water/reusing water, how to save energy and what steps we can take to help the planet.

Gaia is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface* the artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet, floating in three dimensions.

The artwork is 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth with each centimetre of the internally lit sculpture describing 18km of the Earth’s surface.
